Illiterate Magazine
During my final year of university we were tasked with creating our own magazine, we would design the concept, content and covers ourselves. I chose to develop a magazine about sci-fi and fantasy novels as this is an avid passion of mine.
I created a series of covers and articles along with an online presence for the brand.
The magazine would come out twice a year in connection with publishing seasons and talk about both fan favourites and what exciting new reads people can look forward to.
Here are the covers I developed for my first three editions of illiterate magazines
There were several parts of my magazine that I felt were very important. The first was the format of the magazine and the paper stock it would be printed on. I have design this magazine to be the same size a standard book and therefore work well when displayed on a shelf. In regards to the paper stock I want the magazine to be printed on book paper with a cream tinge, this will again link back to the theme and provide an overall better user experience.
Something else I wanted to have an emphasis on within this magazine is the use of artwork and especially fan art. This is because fan art is such a big part of the book community and allows fans to have a more active role in the fan base. I have therefore incorporated illustrations and fan made art throughout the magazine.
Below are some example spreads from the magazine that I feel best showcase the visual identity of illiterate magazine.
The last part of this project was to create an online presence for the brand in the form of a website. This website would function in a manner that allowed readers to interact with the articles in a more dynamic way. The above screenshot is my proposed design for this website.
